Auditory Neuropathy Spectrum Disorder in Children: Diagnosis and Management
Title: Auditory Neuropathy Spectrum Disorder in Children: Diagnosis and Management
WHEN YOU COMPLETE THE REGISTRATION FORM BELOW, YOU WILL HAVE IMMEDIATE ACCESS TO THE RECORDED WEBINAR
Description:
Auditory neuropathy spectrum disorder (ANSD) is a condition characterized by abnormal auditory brainstem responses with evidence of normal outer hair cell function. Children diagnosed with this disorder exhibit a wide range of functional hearing abilities. For audiologists and other professionals, infants with ANSD present special challenges for both diagnosis and management. This presentation will describe the characteristics of children with ANSD, a protocol for accurate diagnosis and the varied phenotypes associated with this disorder. Strategies for successful audiologic management of children with ANSD will also be discussed including hearing aids, cochlear implants and the interdisciplinary approach needed for diagnosis and management. Case presentations will be used to highlight the clinical challenges associated with audiologic management of this disorder.
Learning Objectives
After attending this webinar, participants will be able to:
- Describe a protocol for the accurate diagnosis of auditory neuropathy spectrum disorder (ANSD) in children.
- Describe the audiological profile and medical characteristics of children with ANSD.
- Identify some of the varied phenotypes associated with ANSD.
- Identify strategies for successful audiologic management of children with ANSD including hearing aids, cochlear implants and family counseling.
